Terms and Conditions
Last updated Sep 29, 2026
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") apply to the GIVE UP members portal at members.giveup.bike (the "Portal") and to the GIVE UP Cycling Club ("GIVE UP", "the club", "we") text message program. By applying for membership or using the Portal you agree to these Terms. Questions? Email [email protected].
SMS / text message program
Program name: GIVE UP Cycling Club Member Alerts
What you'll receive: if you opt in, GIVE UP will send text messages to the mobile number you provide, for only the types of messages you choose:
- Upcoming events: reminders about rides and events you've RSVP'd to or subscribed to.
- Changes and cancellations: notices when an event's time or place changes, or it's cancelled.
- Safety notices: important safety information for club members.
- One-time passcodes: verification codes when you confirm your phone number or sign in.
Consent: you opt in by entering your mobile number, choosing which messages you want, ticking the consent box (it is never pre-selected) and confirming the verification code we text you. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of membership or of using the Portal.
Message frequency: varies with the messages you choose and the club's event schedule, typically a few messages per week at most. One-time passcodes are only sent when you request one.
Costs: Message and data rates may apply. Check your mobile plan for details.
Help: reply HELP to any message for help, or email [email protected].
Opting out: reply STOP to any message to stop receiving text messages. You'll get one final message confirming you've been unsubscribed, and then no more messages unless you opt in again. You can also change which messages you receive, or turn them all off, in the Portal.
Carriers: mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery isn't guaranteed, so don't rely on text messages alone for safety-critical information.
Your number: tell us if your mobile number changes or you give it up, so we don't send messages to someone else. Update it in the Portal or reply STOP from the old number.
Privacy: mobile numbers and SMS consent are handled as described in our Privacy Policy. We never share your mobile number or SMS opt-in data with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
Eligibility and membership
- You must be 18 or older to join or use the Portal.
- Membership applications are reviewed by club admins, who may approve or decline them.
- Every member must sign the club's release of liability and any other required agreements. Membership only becomes active once required agreements are signed and any dues are paid.
- The information you give us must be accurate. Please keep your contact details and emergency contact up to date.
- Membership terms, options and dues are shown in the Portal when you apply or renew.
Dues and payments
- Card payments are processed by Stripe. The amount you choose is shown before you pay.
- Dues support the club, including its insurance, and are generally non-refundable. If you think you were charged in error, email [email protected] and we'll look into it.
Events and participation
- Club events, including rides and runs, carry real risks. Your participation is governed by the waiver and agreements you sign in the Portal, which are separate from these Terms.
- Event details (times, places, routes) can change. Check the Portal before you head out.
- Route maps are provided by Strava for convenience only. Always use your own judgment about routes, traffic and conditions.
Your account
- You sign in with a link sent to your email. Keep access to your email account secure, and don't forward sign-in links to anyone.
- You can see and sign out of your devices at any time under Account → Security.
- Be kind. The club may suspend or end the membership of anyone who harasses others, abuses the Portal, or breaks club rules.
The Portal
- We work to keep the Portal available and accurate, but it is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind.
- To the extent permitted by law, the club is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of the Portal. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing here changes the waivers and agreements you sign.
Changes
We may update these Terms. If we make important changes we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let members know by email. Continuing to use the Portal after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
